The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has clarified the circumstances surrounding the unexpected diversion of one of its C-130 aircraft to Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso, during a ferry mission to Portugal on 8 December 2025.
In a statement signed by the Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame on 9 December 2025, the Air Force explained that the aircraft deviated from its scheduled route after the crew detected a technical concern shortly after takeoff from Lagos.
According to Ejodame, the crew acted strictly in line with global aviation safety standards.
“Following takeoff from Lagos, the crew observed a technical concern which necessitated a precautionary landing in Bobo-Dioulasso, the nearest airfield, in accordance with standard safety procedures and international aviation protocols,” he stated.
He confirmed that all personnel onboard are safe and have been treated with courtesy by Burkinabe authorities.
“NAF crew is safe and have received cordial treatment from the host authorities,” Ejodame assured.
The spokesperson added that plans are already underway for the mission to continue as originally scheduled once all technical checks are completed.
He further reaffirmed the Air Force’s commitment to maintaining strict operational and safety practices in all missions.
“The Nigerian Air Force appreciates the support received during this period and assures the public that NAF remains professionally committed to strict compliance with operational procedures and safety standards, ensuring the protection of its personnel while fulfilling its constitutional mandate,” he said.
