Operatives of the Enugu State Police Command have arrested a 25-year-old man, Orlu Chukwuemeka, in connection with a violent “one-chance”-style kidnapping and armed robbery that occurred along Chime Avenue, Enugu.

The arrest, carried out by officers of the New Haven Division and the Distress Response Squad (DRS), followed a distress call received on December 6, 2025, at approximately 6 a.m. Investigations revealed that Chukwuemeka and an accomplice, currently at large, posed as commercial operators of an unregistered white mini-bus and abducted a female passenger at Fourth Dimension.

During the attack, the victim was stabbed and pushed out of the moving vehicle. Her Android phone and ATM card were stolen before the suspects fled. Police operatives quickly trailed the perpetrators and intercepted Chukwuemeka in Independence Layout, Enugu. The fleeing accomplice remains at large.

“The victim was immediately taken to the hospital, where she regained stability and positively identified Chukwuemeka as one of the assailants,” said SP Daniel Ndukwe, Police Public Relations Officer, Enugu State Command.

The suspect has since been arraigned in court and remanded in custody, while police continue efforts to apprehend the second suspect.

Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, psc, praised the swift response of operatives and the cooperation of the public in ensuring the arrest.

“We appreciate the timely support from public-spirited citizens, which greatly aided the swift apprehension of this violent criminal,” CP Giwa said. “Our Command remains committed to combating violent crimes across Enugu State this festive season and beyond. We urge residents to continue providing credible and timely security information.”

Police have reassured residents that intensive operations are ongoing to track down all persons involved in the crime and bring them to justice.
