The Anambra State Police Command has announced a major security breakthrough with the arrest of a notorious armed robber linked to multiple violent crimes, including the murder of a state lawmaker.

The development was confirmed in a statement issued on 10th December 2025 by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Ikenga Tochukwu.

According to Tochukwu, operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Awkuzu, carried out a decisive offensive operation in Ogbaru Local Government Area on December 8, 2025, leading to the arrest of 26-year-old Ugochukwu Uzor, described as a “dangerous criminal with a long history of violent offenses.”

“The suspect was apprehended in Iyowa Odekpe, Ogbaru LGA, after a fierce confrontation with police operatives,” the statement read. “One locally made Beretta pistol and eleven live rounds of ammunition were recovered from him.”

The police spokesperson said Uzor sustained injuries during the confrontation and was immediately subdued. He added that investigators observed a large tattoo on the suspect’s body with the inscriptions ‘No Forgiveness’ and ‘No Mercy,’ which he described as “a disturbing reflection of his hardened criminal disposition.”

During interrogation, Uzor allegedly confessed to being the leader of multiple criminal gangs operating within Anambra and neighbouring states. He also admitted to his involvement in the abduction and murder of Hon. Azuka Justice, a member of the Anambra State House of Assembly who was kidnapped and killed on December 24, 2024—a crime that sparked widespread outrage across the state.

“The arrest of Ugochukwu Uzor represents a major breakthrough in the ongoing fight against violent crime and will greatly assist ongoing investigations aimed at dismantling criminal syndicates,” Tochukwu stated.

The Command urged residents to remain vigilant and continue supporting law enforcement efforts by reporting suspicious activities through its dedicated emergency lines.

“We call on the public to cooperate with the Police in sustaining the fight against crime. Information can be reported confidentially via the Control Room on 07039194332 or the PPRO on 08039334002,” the statement added.

SP Tochukwu reassured the public that the Command remains steadfast in its mission to ensure the safety and security of all residents across Anambra State.
