The Enugu State Police Command has announced the arraignment and remand of 51-year-old Emeka Emmanuel Nwangwu, a member of a Neighbourhood Security Watch group, for the alleged murder of his 19-year-old cousin, Loveth Uloma Nwangwu.

The development followed the conclusion of investigations by the State Criminal Investigation Department (State CID).

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, confirmed the development in a statement issued on December 10, 2025, noting that the action was in line with the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, psc, who had ordered a thorough investigation and immediate prosecution.

According to the police, the suspect was arrested on December 1, 2025, in Nsukka after he allegedly assaulted the victim, inflicting serious injuries that resulted in her death.
“Upon his arrest, the Commissioner of Police directed the State CID to conduct a meticulous investigation and ensure that the case was promptly charged to court,” Ndukwe stated.

Following the completion of investigations, the suspect was brought before the Enugu State Magistrate Court on a one-count charge of murder. The court thereafter ordered his remand and instructed that the case file be forwarded to the Ministry of Justice through the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) for review and legal advice.

Commissioner Giwa extended his sympathies to the bereaved family, assuring them that justice was firmly underway.

“I express my heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the deceased,” he said. “They should take solace in the fact that justice is already in motion, as the investigation has been concluded and the suspect has been arraigned and remanded accordingly.”

The Police Command reiterated its commitment to ensuring that the legal process is diligently pursued as the case progresses.
