The National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Enugu State chapter, has formally unveiled a political mobilisation platform—Network for Peter Ndubuisi Mbah (N4PNM)—to back Governor Peter Mbah’s re-election bid in 2027.
The endorsement was announced on Thursday at NULGE House in Enugu, where union leaders and members declared their readiness to rally local government workers across the state behind the governor.
Speaking at the event, the State President of NULGE, Comrade Udeagha Ani, said the move was consistent with the union’s long-standing tradition of supporting incumbent administration that is doingwell.
“What we’re doing today is a reaffirmation of a laid-down tradition by our past leaders,” Ani stated.
“The network is about supporting the government of the day politically, and during the time of Chimaroke, Chime, and Ugwuanyi, the support was visible enough and we toured the 68 development centres to galvanise support for the incumbent despite the challenges we faced.”
Ani said the new mobilisation effort was also in appreciation of the administration’s consistent support for local government workers.
“We’re doing this to support the government of the day in reciprocation of their support over the years.
“We’re re-unveiling the network because we now have a governor who is the most worker-sensitive of all the governors in the country, a silent achiever who doesn’t need to be pushed about.”
According to him, the governor’s early actions in office set a new tone for labour relations in the state.
“Local government workers have never had it so good under his watch. At the early stage of his administration, he demonstrated this sensitivity when he approved the extension of the verification exercise to accommodate every worker, and we achieved over 95 percent of our workers being verified and currently on the payroll.
“His Excellency, upon assumption of office, approved the full implementation of the ₦30,000 minimum wage with unprecedented urgency and without the usual back-and-forth in government.”
He noted that Mbah exceeded national standards after the Nigerian government approved a ₦70,000 minimum wage.
“When the ₦70,000 national minimum wage was approved, His Excellency raised the bar by approving and implementing the sum of ₦80,000 as minimum wage for workers, including local government employees. This is the first time a governor is doing this for us.”
“For these and many more, we have every reason to thank him, support him politically, put our boots on the ground, and do something we’ve not done before to support his re-election in 2027.”
He praised the administration’s ambitious development drive.
“We’re supporting him not just for what he has done for us, but also because of the unimaginable development of the state across all sectors, and with the pace he’s moving, Enugu will be the preferred destination in Africa in the next six years.”
“We’re supporting His Excellency because we see in him a man ready for the job, and that explains the pace with which he’s moving and the level of financial discipline we’ve seen. We know that Enugu is on the right footing.”
“We’ll use our structure in all nooks and crannies of the state to galvanise, sensitise, and mobilise our people in a very innovative way.”
The NULGE President concluded with a firm commitment to Mbah’s 2027 bid.
“We’re pleased to be leading the local government employees at a time we have a man like Governor Mbah as our governor, and we’ll do everything to ensure that his reelection is seamless.”
Also speaking, the Chairman of all branch chairmen, Emeka Ngwu, assured the State President of full mobilisation support across all LGAs.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Local Government Service Commission, Chief Nana Ogbodo—represented by the Secretary of the Commission, Osondu Nnaji—commended the initiative, describing it as a natural response to Mbah’s worker-friendly policies.
“What they are doing did not come to me as a surprise because the governor has prioritised their welfare as well as infrastructural development,” he said.
Ogbodo added that local government staff were receiving overdue attention.
“Today, the promotion of workers at the local government level is receiving the necessary attention, and for the first time, the Commission has one of our own on the Board as a secretary.”
