The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) has expanded its national structure with the admission of 28 new chapters during its 18th National Delegates Conference (NDC), currently underway in Jos, Plateau State.

Among the newly admitted branches is the Federal Polytechnic, Orogun (FEPO) Chapter, which formally joined the union after spending two years under observer status. It was admitted alongside five other fresh chapters drawn from various zones across the country.

The union confirmed that the admissions cut across all four zones, reflecting a broad-based strengthening of ASUP’s national membership.

In Zone A, eleven chapters were admitted—nine new chapters and two re-admitted ones, namely Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic and the Shehu Idris College of Health Science and Technology.
Zone B welcomed seven new chapters, while Zone C admitted four.

Zone D recorded six admissions, including the College of Health Technology, Ofuoma; Federal Polytechnic, Ohodo, Enugu State; Federal Polytechnic, Ugep, Cross River State; and the International Institute of Tourism, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, among others.

According to the union, all 28 chapters met the statutory conditions and cleared the required intent fees before being ratified at the national conference.

The inclusion of the ASUP-FEPO chapter marks a significant milestone for the institution’s academic staff. The chapter’s coordinator, Dr. John O. Atake, was present at the event alongside the ASUP National President, Mr. Gbanja, and the ASUP Zone D Coordinator (covering South-South and South-East), Dr. Richard Iloma.

The 18th NDC continues in Jos, with the union expected to deliberate on key national and sectoral issues affecting polytechnic education.
