President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the establishment of a new Nigerian Army Depot in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, in a move aimed at expanding the manpower base and strengthening the operational capacity of the Nigerian Army.

Sources familiar with the development told security analyst Zagazola Makama that the new Army Depot will complement existing military training institutions, ensuring a steady supply of well-trained personnel for deployment across the country.

According to military sources, the initiative aligns with the Nigerian Army’s long-term strategic plan to enhance national security by producing combat-ready soldiers capable of responding effectively to a wide range of security challenges, including terrorism, insurgency, and other internal threats.

The proposed Depot is expected to deliver specialist and mission-oriented training, with strong emphasis on marksmanship, fieldcraft, and overall operational readiness. The facility will also integrate systems designed to protect the welfare and wellbeing of recruits, both during their training and throughout their service.

The decision to locate the new Army Depot in Abakaliki follows ongoing efforts by the Federal Government to improve manpower development within the Nigerian military and reinforce the country’s security architecture.
