The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointing Professor Chituru Godwill Orluwene as the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH).

Wike, while expressing gratitude to the President for finding “yet another Rivers State indigene worthy of a federal appointment,” said the decision once again reflects President Tinubu’s goodwill towards Rivers State and its people.

“The President has consistently demonstrated his love for Rivers State and its people, and we will keep supporting him to continue with his good governance,” the Minister said.

In a statement issued on Tuesday and signed by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Mr. Lere Olayinka, Wike described the appointment of Prof. Orluwene as “President Tinubu putting another round peg in a round hole.”

He urged the new CMD to deploy his wealth of experience to further strengthen and improve the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital in line with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

The Minister also appreciated the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, for recommending Prof. Orluwene for the position.

“I congratulate Prof. Orluwene on this appointment and urge him to work collaboratively with all stakeholders in UPTH to ensure the continued delivery of quality healthcare services to Nigerians,” Wike added.

The statement was signed by Mr. Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, on December 16, 2025.
