Enugu State is taking a major step from policy formulation to large-scale implementation in its digital transformation agenda, leveraging the Federal Government’s 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) Programme to deliver measurable results at the state level.
Through the initiative, Enugu is strengthening its strategic partnership with the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy (FMCIDE), ensuring that national digital priorities are effectively translated into concrete outcomes that benefit young people and the wider economy.
The programme is being coordinated locally by the Enugu SME Center, also known as the Enugu MSME and Startup Agency, under the Enugu Tech Talent Capacity Development Programme. In the pilot phase alone, more than 5,000 young people are undergoing intensive training in globally competitive digital skills, including software development, data science, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies.
Officials say the growing pool of trained tech talent is deliberately positioned to feed into the Enugu Talent City initiative, a flagship job-creation platform designed around Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) and Knowledge Process Outsourcing (KPO) hubs. By deliberately aligning talent supply with private-sector demand, the state aims to create sustainable employment opportunities, stimulate enterprise growth and expand export-driven digital services.
Driven by the vision of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, the Enugu State Government is moving beyond isolated training programmes to build an integrated digital economy where skills development, infrastructure and industry needs intersect to unlock jobs at scale.
From skills to scale and from talent to jobs, the initiative underscores Enugu’s strategy for building a resilient digital economy—one cohort at a time.
