A Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) attached to the 12 Police Mobile Force (PMF) in Minna, Niger State, has taken his own life during a routine arms and ammunition audit, the Niger State Police Command has confirmed.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, the incident occurred on December 16, 2025, at about 2:30 p.m.

The officer, DSP Abdullahi Isah, had earlier been arrested on December 15, 2025, over suspected involvement in illegal ammunition dealings and was escorted to his office as part of ongoing audit and investigative procedures.

According to the police, while the arms audit was in progress, DSP Isah took his own life inside the office.

Following the incident, officers detailed to accompany him during the audit and investigation were arrested for alleged negligence in the line of duty, over claims that they failed to prevent the occurrence.

The police also confirmed the arrest of Inspector John Moses, attached to the Niger State Government House.

Investigators disclosed that Moses confessed that the late DSP supplied him with arms and ammunition, which were allegedly sold to bandits and hoodlums operating in Erena community, Shiroro Local Government Area, through his brother.

Operatives of the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) subsequently took the suspects to Abuja for further investigation.

Police sources further revealed that the deceased officer owned multiple houses in choice areas of Minna, as well as several vehicles, a development that has raised additional questions for investigators.

The Niger State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Adamu Elleman, confirmed the incident, assuring that investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death and the alleged diversion of arms are ongoing.
