The Ojibara of Bayagan in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, Alhaji Kamilu Salami, who was abducted on November 30, 2025, has regained his freedom after spending 25 days in captivity.
According to LEADERSHIP, the traditional ruler was released by his abductors on Tuesday, bringing relief to his family, community and well-wishers across the state.
A palace source confirmed the monarch’s release, noting that he has since reunited with his family.
The monarch was abducted from his farm, with the kidnappers initially demanding a ransom of N150 million for his release.
However, the palace source who confirmed the development declined to disclose whether any ransom was paid to secure the Ojibara’s freedom.
“All I can tell you is that the Ojibara of Bayagan has regained his freedom. I can’t say anything about ransom payment,” the source said. “The monarch has been advised to stay away from public glare for now. Ojibara is fine, I can confirm that.”
The abduction of the monarch had sparked widespread concern and renewed calls for improved security across Kwara State, particularly in rural communities vulnerable to kidnappings.
