The Enugu State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Ben-Osy Okoh, has marked the Christmas season with residents of Ugbawka Community, Ward 1, reaffirming his commitment to critical road reconstruction projects in the area in line with the infrastructual revolution under Governor Peter Mbah.

The commissioner, who was represented at the event by the Councillor representing Ugbawka Ward 1 and Majority Leader of the Nkanu East Local Government Legislative Council, Rt. Hon. Nwankwo Francis N., distributed 50 bags of rice and ₦500,000 cash support to residents as part of a festive outreach programme. The items were shared among community members who turned out in large numbers and received the support in an orderly manner.

Delivering the commissioner’s Christmas message, Rt. Hon. Nwankwo said the outreach was aimed at identifying with the people during the festive period, especially in view of prevailing economic challenges.

“This gesture is to celebrate with our people and to show that leadership must always carry empathy, particularly at a time when many families are under economic strain,” Okoh said through his representative.

Beyond the Christmas goodwill, the commissioner used the occasion to reassure residents of Ugbawka of the state government’s resolve to address their infrastructure needs. He disclosed that plans were already underway for the reconstruction of key access roads linking Ugbawka to Nomeh, Ugbawka to Amurri, and Ugbawka to Atakwu communities, a project designed to create multiple access points and improve connectivity in the area.

According to him, the road projects have received approval from Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, with funding arrangements already in place.

“The project has been approved by His Excellency, Dr. Barr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, and all necessary processes, including funding, have been concluded. Construction work will commence soon,” the commissioner assured.

He explained that the road reconstruction forms part of the state government’s broader strategy to enhance road infrastructure, ease movement, and stimulate economic activities across rural and urban communities in Enugu State.

The visit ended on a note of appreciation, as community members expressed gratitude to the commissioner and the state government for the Christmas support and the assurance of long-awaited road projects, describing the intervention as timely and reassuring.
