Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has welcomed the formal defection of former Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, into the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing it as a historic moment for political coalitions in Nigeria.

Obi officially joined the ADC on Tuesday at Nike Lake Resort, Enugu, in a well-attended event that drew the national leadership of the party, members of the National Assembly, and other key political stakeholders. He vowed to lead a united opposition movement to resist electoral fraud and rescue Nigeria from what he described as democratic decline.

In reaction, Atiku said, “Today marks a significant moment in the history of political coalitions in our country, with the official declaration of my brother and associate, Peter Obi, into the African Democratic Congress.”

He expressed optimism about the prospects of a stronger opposition, adding, “It is my pleasure to welcome him officially, as we look forward to a robust working relationship that will foster a virile opposition, one that will ultimately form a government capable of bringing prosperity and peace to our people.”

Atiku also highlighted the symbolic importance of the event in Enugu, describing it as a signal to other patriots to rally behind the cause. “And as the ADC Coalition train leaves Enugu, the capital of the Southeast region, I hope this inspires other patriots to join the cause with the train headed in their direction,” he said.
