The President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Senator Azuta Mbata, has delivered a New Year message to Igbos across the globe, calling for unity, resilience and renewed hope as the Igbo nation steps into 2026.
In his message to Igbos worldwide, Mbata expressed gratitude for the support and cooperation he received in the past year, describing it as a source of strength for his leadership of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation.
“As we step into this New Year 2026, I extend my warm greetings and heartfelt gratitude to every son and daughter of Igbo land all over the world,” Mbata said. “I sincerely thank you for your unwavering support, trust and cooperation in the past one year of my leadership as President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide.”
The Ohanaeze leader commended Igbos for their resilience in the face of challenges, highlighting their industry and entrepreneurial spirit as defining attributes that continue to distinguish them globally.
“I commend Ndigbo for our resilience in the face of challenges, our industry and our renowned spirit of entrepreneurship which continue to distinguish us wherever we find ourselves,” he stated.
Acknowledging the difficulties confronting Nigeria, Mbata noted that Igbos remain strong, enterprising and hopeful despite prevailing national challenges.
“There is no gainsaying that despite the challenges confronting our nation in general, we still remain strong, enterprising and hopeful people,” he said.
He urged Igbos to remain encouraged, expressing confidence in the future of the Igbo nation. “By the grace of God, the future of the Igbo nation remains bright. Together, we shall overcome present challenges through unity, perseverance and faith in God,” Mbata added.
Mbata reaffirmed that his leadership is anchored on community service and is committed to promoting love, unity and solidarity among Igbos. He said the National Executive Committee (NEC) of Ohanaeze Ndigbo is working tirelessly to build a just and fair society based on equity and equality.
“My leadership, founded on the tenets of community service, remains firmly committed to promoting love, unity and solidarity among Ndigbo,” he said. “The NEC under my watch is working tirelessly for a just and fair society where equity and equality are guaranteed for all citizens, irrespective of ethnicity, religion or social status.”
He also called on Igbos to remain law-abiding, peaceful and constructive in their engagements, stressing that collective progress depends on inclusivity, unity and responsible citizenship.
“As we move forward, I call on Ndigbo to remain focused, law-abiding, peaceful and constructive in our engagements, knowing that our collective progress lies in inclusivity, unity and responsible citizenship,” Mbata said.
The Ohanaeze Ndigbo President General concluded by wishing peace, good health and renewed hope to every Igbo family in the New Year, while reaffirming commitment to a united Nigeria.
“May this New Year bring peace, good health and renewed hope to every Igbo family,” he said. “Long live Ala Igbo. Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Happy New Year.”
