Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has disclosed that he will soon make public the details of the peace agreement reached between him and Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, under the mediation of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Wike made this known on Wednesday during a “thank-you visit” to Tai Local Government Area of Rivers State, amid lingering tensions following the political crisis that rocked the state.
President Tinubu had in June intervened to broker a truce between Wike and Fubara, bringing an end to months of political turmoil in Rivers State and restoring relative calm.
Although he did not mention Governor Fubara by name, the minister accused the governor of reneging on the agreement reached before the President, insisting that the people of Rivers State would soon be told the full story.
“Very soon, we will let the people of Rivers State know what we agreed on before Mr President,” Wike said.
He cautioned the people of Tai against placing their trust in political actors who fail to honour agreements, stressing that such individuals cannot be relied upon.
Wike further declared that Rivers people were fully prepared for the 2027 general elections, warning that money politics would not determine electoral outcomes in the state.
According to him, the decisive factor would be the will of the people, not financial inducement.
The former Rivers governor explained that his visit to Tai was not politically motivated but was meant to appreciate the people for their steadfast support for him and President Tinubu.
“It was a tough battle in 2023. You took a risk, worked with us and God gave us victory.
“See what the risk has resulted in— a federal university sited in Tai and many other benefits,” he said.
Earlier, Senator Barry Mpigi (APC–Rivers South East) expressed gratitude to President Tinubu and Wike for their support to the senatorial district, describing the current period as unprecedented in terms of development.
“The people have never had it this good,” Mpigi said.
He assured Wike of the unwavering loyalty of the people, noting that their support was rooted in the justice, equity and fairness they had experienced under the Tinubu administration.
“I want to assure you on behalf of the people of Rivers South East that we will continue to be with you,” he added.
Also speaking, a member of the Rivers State House of Assembly representing Tai Constituency, Mr Bernard Nbar, pledged the continued backing of his constituents.
“You can count on the Tai people, because Tai people keep to their words,” Nbar said.
In his remarks, Chairman of Tai Local Government Area, Mbakpone Okpe, thanked Wike for visiting and engaging directly with the people of the area.
Okpe described Wike’s directive to support Tinubu in the 2023 election as a blessing, citing the benefits that have since accrued to the community.
“Our people have continued to benefit from appointments, infrastructure, empowerment and other dividends of democracy.
“For these reasons and more, we are eager to return Mr President for a second tenure. We will roll out all our votes for Tinubu and whoever you support,” he said.
