The Anambra State Police Command has recorded significant security successes during the 2025 December festive (Ember) season, following coordinated operations with other security agencies across the state.
In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Command said the interventions led to the maintenance of public safety, arrest of suspects, and protection of lives and property, resulting in a largely peaceful and hitch-free celebration.
According to the statement, operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) arrested a 42-year-old woman, Eucharia Ogochukwu, on December 31, 2025, at about 3:20pm in Awka, over allegations of criminal conspiracy, cyberbullying, and defamation of character.
“Preliminary investigation indicates that the suspect allegedly engaged in coordinated online activities aimed at damaging the reputation of a very senior police officer who once served in the Command,” Ikenga said.
He added that the suspect made useful statements during interrogation, while investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend other persons connected to the alleged offence.
The Police Command also confirmed the successful containment of security challenges that arose during town union elections conducted in some communities across Anambra State during the festive period.
Ikenga explained that police operatives, working in synergy with other security agencies and community stakeholders, were swiftly deployed to affected areas after reports of tension and disagreements linked to the electoral process.
“The timely intervention of the Police prevented a breakdown of law and order, ensured the safety of residents, and restored calm in the affected communities,” he stated.
The Command commended community leaders, town union officials, and residents for their cooperation and restraint, noting that their conduct played a critical role in the peaceful resolution of the disputes.
While advising aggrieved candidates and supporters to seek redress through lawful and established channels, the Police disclosed that joint security patrols were intensified across major highways, commercial centres, places of worship, and recreational areas throughout the festive season.
Ikenga said the proactive security measures ensured a calm and secure festive atmosphere in most parts of the state.
The statement reaffirmed the Anambra State Police Command’s commitment to sustaining peace and security and urged residents to continue supporting law enforcement agencies with timely and credible information.
