The Enugu State Police Command has recorded major operational breakthroughs with the disruption of an interstate vehicle theft syndicate, the arrest of suspects and the recovery of two Mack trucks and a Toyota Highlander Jeep stolen from Aba in Abia State and Lagos State respectively.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Daniel Ndukwe, said the successes were recorded during separate intelligence-led operations carried out within Enugu State.
According to the statement, operatives attached to the Emene Police Division, acting on credible intelligence received through the Command’s Control Room, mobilised swiftly on December 22, 2025, at about 8:00 a.m. to a location in Emene, where they recovered two stolen Mack trucks.
“The recovered vehicles include a yellow Mack truck carrying a 40-foot container and another white Mack truck without a registration number. Investigations revealed that the trucks were stolen from Aba, Abia State, and brought to Enugu to be sold before they were recovered,” Ndukwe stated.
He disclosed that two male suspects were arrested in connection with the crime. They include Okenwa Chinedu, aged 33, who allegedly conveyed the stolen trucks to Enugu, and Adaka Emmanuel, aged 28, who reportedly intended to purchase one of the vehicles.
“Preliminary investigations show that Okenwa is a Mack truck mechanic based in Aba, Abia State, while Adaka is a scrap dealer,” the police spokesperson said, adding that the rightful owners of the recovered trucks have since identified them.
He noted that further discreet investigations were ongoing to track down and arrest other members of the interstate syndicate.
In a related development, the police also foiled an attempt to sell a stolen Toyota Highlander Jeep in Enugu. Ndukwe said operatives attached to the Uwani Police Division, acting on credible information, arrested a suspect, Emmanuel Chukwu, on December 17, 2025, at about 6:40 p.m.
“The suspect was arrested while attempting to sell an ox-blood coloured Toyota Highlander Jeep with registration number AGL 929 FX at a car stand in Uwani, Enugu. The vehicle was earlier reported stolen in Isolo, Lagos State,” he said.
According to the statement, both the suspect and the recovered vehicle have been handed over to the police division in Lagos State where the case was originally reported for conclusive investigation.
Commending the officers involved in the operations, the Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, psc, praised their professionalism, vigilance and swift response to intelligence.
“The Commissioner of Police reassures residents of Enugu State of the Command’s unwavering commitment to maintaining safety and security in the new year,” Ndukwe said.
He added that the CP urged members of the public to continue to cooperate with the police by providing credible information and promptly reporting suspicious persons and criminal activities to the nearest police station.
The statement was signed by SP Daniel Ndukwe, Police Public Relations Officer, Enugu State Police Command, and dated January 5, 2026.
