The General Manager of the Enugu State Community and Social Development Agency (CSDA), Monday Diamond Ani, has moved to dispel what he described as misleading narratives circulating on social media, clarifying that borehole drilling projects are entirely different from the Enugu State Government’s capital water supply schemes being implemented under Governor Peter Mbah.
Ani was reacting to claims by some individuals on social media which, according to him, were deliberately crafted to confuse the public and discredit the achievements of Governor Mbah’s administration in the water sector.
Speaking on the ongoing water interventions across the state, Ani explained that the Mbah administration has committed substantial resources to large-scale capital water projects aimed at restoring, expanding and modernising reticulated water supply across Enugu metropolis and other major urban centres in the state.
He noted that although reticulated water has not yet reached every household, many communities are now enjoying steady access to potable water, stressing that the long-standing challenge of water scarcity in Enugu city is gradually being resolved through sustained investment and infrastructure renewal.
Ani further clarified that borehole provision falls under community-based water interventions executed through Community and Social Development programmes, which are specifically designed to support underserved and rural communities with basic water infrastructure.
He stressed that while both interventions address water needs, they are fundamentally different in scope and execution, explaining that the state government is responsible for capital-intensive urban water projects, while the CSDA focuses on smaller, community-driven borehole schemes.
According to him, the two approaches are complementary rather than contradictory, adding that Governor Mbah deserves commendation for simultaneously investing in both capital water infrastructure and community-level water projects, despite the enormous financial and technical demands involved in the sector.
