President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has arrived in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, ahead of his participation in the 2026 edition of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW), a major global forum on sustainable development, climate action, and economic transformation.
The President’s aircraft landed at the Presidential Wing of Zayed International Airport at exactly 11:30 p.m. local time on Sunday.
He was received on arrival by the UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Shakhboot Nahyan Al Nahyan; the UAE Ambassador to Nigeria, Salem Saeed Al-Shamsi; Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar; as well as members of the Nigerian diplomatic mission in Abu Dhabi.
Other senior Nigerian officials, including the Minister of Budget and Planning, Atiku Bagudu; the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole; and the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ambassador Muhammed Muhammed, later joined the President to welcome him at his hotel.
President Tinubu arrived in Abu Dhabi from Europe, where he spent part of his end-of-year break holding high-level engagements with Rwandan President Paul Kagame and French President Emmanuel Macron.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, said the visit underscores Nigeria’s growing role in global conversations on sustainability and development.
“The 2026 Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week provides a strategic platform for world leaders, policymakers, investors, and experts to advance dialogue and action on sustainable development, climate action, energy transition, and inclusive economic growth,” Onanuga stated.
He noted that the theme of this year’s summit, ‘The Nexus of Next, All Systems Go,’ aligns with Nigeria’s development aspirations under the Tinubu administration.
According to him, the President’s participation “further reinforces the strong diplomatic and economic ties between Nigeria and the United Arab Emirates, while positioning Nigeria as an active and credible contributor to global efforts aimed at building a more sustainable future.”
Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week begins on Monday and is expected to attract top global decision-makers from across government, business, and the international development community.
