The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a masquerade involved in what it described as unprovoked and violent attacks on innocent residents in Awgbu, Orumba North Local Government Area of the state.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Command said the suspect had been taken into police custody following the incident, which triggered a breach of public peace in the community and sparked widespread public concern.
The police condemned the conduct of the masquerade, noting that the actions captured in a viral video currently circulating on social media were unacceptable and contrary to the law.
According to the Command, “the behaviour of the masquerade, as seen in the viral video currently in circulation, is totally unacceptable, unlawful, and will not be tolerated under any guise.”
The police said the suspect remains in custody while investigations continue to identify and apprehend all other individuals connected to the incident.
“The suspect is currently in Police custody, and investigations are ongoing to ensure that all those involved are brought to justice,” the statement added.
The Command assured residents that further updates would be communicated as investigations progress.
