The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has commissioned a newly constructed Police Division in Affa Community, Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State, reaffirming the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to expanding security coverage and bringing policing closer to the people.
The new Affa Police Division, commissioned on January 14, 2026, is part of a nationwide strategy aimed at strengthening police visibility, improving response time, and addressing security challenges, particularly in rural and semi-urban communities.
Speaking through the Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, the IGP described the establishment of the division as a deliberate intervention designed to bridge existing policing gaps within Affa Community and the wider Udi axis.
“The commissioning of this division underscores our sustained commitment to expanding police presence nationwide and ensuring that the security, safety, and policing needs of Nigerians are adequately met,” the IGP said.
He called on community leaders and residents to support the new division with moral, material, and logistical assistance to enable officers to commence full operations without delay, noting that community cooperation remains critical to effective policing.
The IGP also charged the pioneer Divisional Police Officer (DPO) and personnel of the division to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and respect for human rights in the discharge of their duties.
“They must be firm, courageous, and proactive, while exercising emotional intelligence, restraint, and social sensitivity in their interactions with members of the public,” he stressed.
He further warned officers against any form of financial misconduct or behaviour capable of bringing the Force into disrepute, including the practice commonly known as “crying down credit,” which he said would not be tolerated under any circumstances.
The commissioning ceremony attracted several dignitaries, including the Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Uche Ugwu, and the Chairman of Udi Local Government Area, Hon. Hyginus Agu. Traditional rulers, community leaders, senior police officers, and other key stakeholders were also in attendance.
The establishment of the Affa Police Division is expected to significantly enhance security operations across Udi Local Government Area and surrounding communities, while deepening trust between the police and the people.
