The African Pillar of Sports and Senator representing Abia North Senatorial District, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, has congratulated the Super Eagles of Nigeria on their hard-fought victory over Egypt to secure the bronze medal at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

In a statement obtained from his verified Facebook page on Sunday, the former Governor of Abia State described the Super Eagles’ performance at the tournament as inspiring and courageous, noting that defeating a football powerhouse like Egypt further reinforces Nigeria’s enduring pedigree in African football.

According to Senator Kalu, the third-place finish transcends the bronze medal itself, reflecting the character, resilience, and fighting spirit displayed by the team under immense pressure and heightened expectations from millions of Nigerians at home and in the diaspora.

“The Super Eagles have once again shown that Nigerian football is built on resilience, skill, and an unyielding desire to succeed. Beating Egypt to clinch the bronze medal is a remarkable achievement that reflects the hard work of the players, the tactical depth of the technical crew, and the unwavering support of Nigerians,” the statement read.

The senator commended the players for bouncing back strongly after their semi-final disappointment, stressing that football, like life, is not about perfection but the ability to rise after setbacks. He added that the team’s response in the third-place match demonstrated maturity, unity, and a winning mentality that augurs well for the future of Nigerian football.

The former Senate Chief Whip also praised the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), the coaching crew, and other stakeholders for their collective roles in ensuring a competitive outing at the continental showpiece, urging them to consolidate on the positives recorded at AFCON 2025.

Kalu further appealed to Nigerians to sustain their support for the Super Eagles, noting that the team once again united the country and boosted national morale through their performance on the continental stage.

“The Super Eagles have done Nigeria proud. This bronze medal is a testament that Nigeria remains a dominant force in African football. With sustained support, discipline, and investment in grassroots development, greater glory awaits our national teams,” he added.

Concluding, the African Pillar of Sports wished the players continued success in their careers and reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to the growth and development of sports in Nigeria.
