A police officer has been confirmed dead following a violent attack by armed gunmen on Aqua Triton Company in Ogunmakin, near Ibadan, Oyo State.
The attackers, whose identities are yet to be established, reportedly invaded the facility in a commando-style operation, triggering a fierce gun battle with security personnel assigned to the company.
During the exchange of fire, a police officer was fatally shot while resisting the assailants, although some of the gunmen were believed to have sustained gunshot wounds.
Despite the resistance, the attackers succeeded in abducting a Chinese national, identified as the principal officer of the company.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Olayinka Ayanlade, disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, CP Femi Haruna, was immediately briefed on the attack.
According to the Oyo State Police Command, the Commissioner promptly directed the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations to mobilise the Anti-Kidnapping Squad alongside other tactical units to the scene.
The PPRO revealed that a bush-combing operation was ongoing, while a comprehensive investigation had been launched to secure the safe rescue of the abducted expatriate and ensure the arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators.
The Oyo State Police Command reassured residents of its commitment to restoring calm in the area and appealed to members of the public to volunteer credible information that could assist ongoing security operations.
