The Kano State Police Command has arrested three key suspects in connection with the gruesome killing of a housewife and her six children in Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters of Kano metropolis, linking the suspects to an earlier double murder in Tudun Yola area of the city.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said the arrests followed an intelligence-led operation carried out under the supervision of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori.
“The Kano State Police Command has leveraged intelligence-led policing to apprehend three suspected masterminds behind the brutal murder of a housewife and her six children in Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters, Kano on 17th January, 2026,” the statement said.
The suspects were identified as Umar Auwalu, 23, of Sabuwar Gandu Quarters; Isyaku Yakubu, also known as Chebe, 40, of Sagagi Quarters; and Yakubu Abdulaziz, popularly called Wawo, 21, of Sabon Gida Sharada Quarters. They were arrested during a sting operation conducted between 10pm on Saturday, January 17, and 4am on Sunday, January 18, 2026.
Police investigations revealed that Umar Auwalu, described as the suspected leader of the syndicate and a nephew of the deceased woman, confessed to his role in the Dorayi Chiranchi killings during interrogation.
Investigators further linked the trio to an earlier incident in Tudun Yola Quarters, where two housewives were allegedly murdered and their bodies set ablaze, heightening fears over violent crimes in parts of the Kano metropolis.
“The leader of the syndicate, Umar Auwalu, a nephew to the deceased housewife, confessed to the crime and also admitted that the same syndicate has carried out a series of gruesome killings and attacks in the recent past, including the killing and burning of two housewives at Tudun Yola Quarters Kano,” the PPRO stated.
The Tudun Yola incident, which occurred weeks earlier, had generated widespread public concern and renewed calls for decisive action by security agencies to stem rising violent crime in the city.
Items recovered from the suspects include four blood-stained clothes, two mobile phones belonging to the deceased, a cutlass, a club, and an undisclosed sum of money allegedly stolen from the Dorayi Chiranchi residence, alongside other dangerous weapons.
The police said investigations are ongoing and assured residents that all those connected to the crimes would be brought to justice.
The Command also commended officers involved in the operation and expressed appreciation to members of the public for their prayers, support, and cooperation, reiterating its commitment to safeguarding lives and property across Kano State.
