The Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) has signalled an imminent strategic shift in its decades-long self-determination campaign, hinting at a new phase that could redefine the group’s methods and international engagement.

In a press statement issued on behalf of the organisation, MASSOB said its leadership had concluded a series of high-level consultations with pro-Biafra leaders both within Nigeria and across the diaspora, resulting in what it described as a renewed and recalibrated push for the actualisation and restoration of the Biafra state.

According to the group, the forthcoming phase of the struggle will intensify efforts aimed at securing greater international recognition, sympathy, and intervention, while maintaining its commitment to non-violent agitation.

“The self-determination struggle for Biafra actualisation and restoration will intensify our combined push for international recognition and sympathy,” the statement read.

MASSOB disclosed that the outcome of the meetings points to increased global engagement and diplomatic pressure, which it believes will bring the Biafra cause closer to international attention and support.

“After a series of high-level meetings with pro-Biafra leaders both at home and in the diaspora, the non-violent self-determination struggle for the independence of Biafra State will experience more international interventions towards our independence from the Nigeria state,” the group stated.

The organisation also announced its intention to deepen political participation as part of what it termed Biafra’s political emancipation, stressing that it possesses a strong grassroots base capable of influencing political formations.

“We shall engage in political participation as Biafra political emancipation determines our political involvements and participation. We have the grassroots base and block political formations,” MASSOB said.

Addressing the continued detention of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the group rejected claims that his incarceration has weakened the Biafra movement.

“The Nigeria state thought that their mesmerisation of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu would collapse our legitimate right or dampen our spirit to Biafra self-determination activism,” the statement noted.

Reaffirming its ideological resolve, MASSOB declared that the Biafra struggle remains resilient and irreversible.

“On behalf of the people of Biafra, MASSOB boldly announces and declares that the spirit of Biafranism is undying and undeniable. God, history and humanity are on our side. The Biafra revolution is indestructible,” it said.

The group further condemned what it described as the Nigerian government’s refusal to heed both local and international calls for Kanu’s release, warning that continued delays in addressing the Biafra question could have far-reaching consequences.

“The Nigeria state, in its systematic denial of justice to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and the delay of a Biafra referendum, has unknowingly produced thousands more Mazi Nnamdi Kanus who will soon display their activities,” MASSOB warned.
