The Enugu State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to youth empowerment and economic transformation through sustained investment in digital skills, describing technology competence as a critical pillar for the state’s future growth.
This was disclosed by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Digital Economy and SMEs and Director-General of the Enugu MSME & Startup Agency (Enugu SME Centre), Hon. Arinze Chilo-Offiah, as the state continues to roll out the Enugu Tech Talents Programme, a flagship initiative aimed at preparing young people for opportunities in the global digital economy.
Chilo-Offiah said that in today’s fast-evolving digital landscape, technology skills are no longer optional but essential for competitiveness, innovation, and access to quality employment.
“In today’s rapidly evolving digital world, technology skills are no longer a luxury—they are a necessity,” he said. “From software development and data analytics to cybersecurity and artificial intelligence, digital competencies equip young people with the tools to innovate, compete globally, and access quality jobs.”
He explained that the programme is designed to empower youths to become creators of value rather than passive consumers, noting that digital skills play a crucial role in driving productivity, inclusion, and long-term economic resilience.
“Tech skills empower our young people to create value, not just consume it. They are the engine for productivity, inclusion, and sustainable economic resilience,” Chilo-Offiah added.
According to him, the Enugu Tech Talents Programme, implemented by the Enugu SME Centre, is a deliberate strategy to build a future-ready workforce aligned with the demands of the modern economy.
“Through the Enugu Tech Talents Programme, we are intentionally building a workforce that can meet the needs of today’s digital economy while positioning Enugu as a credible hub for innovation and digital jobs,” he said.
Chilo-Offiah stressed that the initiative reflects the broader vision of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah’s administration, which places human capital development at the centre of its economic agenda.
“Under the leadership of His Excellency, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, Enugu State continues to prioritise human capital development as the foundation for sustainable growth—unlocking opportunities for young people, strengthening enterprise competitiveness, and positioning Enugu as a destination for innovation,” he stated.
He added that the state’s digital economy drive is not only about skills acquisition but also about building an ecosystem that supports startups, attracts investment, and creates long-term employment for youths.
“By investing in our youths today, we are deliberately building the future of Enugu—one that is competitive, inclusive, and resilient in a global digital economy,” Chilo-Offiah said.
The Enugu SME Centre has continued to roll out programmes focused on digital skills, entrepreneurship, and startup support as part of the state’s broader strategy to transform Enugu into a leading subnational economy powered by innovation and technology.
