The prolonged political tension in Rivers State may be showing signs of de-escalation following a late-night intervention by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
According to a report by The Nation on Monday, the President convened a closed-door meeting involving the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike; Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara; and other influential political stakeholders from the state. Although the full details of the high-level engagement were not made public, the move is widely seen as part of efforts to restore political stability in Rivers.
The report further disclosed that Governor Fubara reportedly accompanied Wike to his private residence in Guzape, Abuja, shortly after the meeting, fuelling speculation that reconciliation talks had made significant progress.
Sources cited by the newspaper also alleged that the governor appealed to the former Rivers State governor, promising never to disrespect him again — a development interpreted by observers as a major step towards mending strained relations between the two political heavyweights.
The meeting is believed to be part of broader behind-the-scenes moves to calm the political storm that has dominated Rivers State politics in recent months.
