Fidelity Advert
Amalu

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Hon. Anthony Amalu has declined his appointment as Regional Director of the Youth Parliament for Renewed Hope (South East), citing what he described as prolonged neglect and unfair treatment of loyal party candidates and stakeholders.

Amalu, while expressing appreciation to the Speaker of the Youth Parliament, Rt. Hon. Husaini Alkali, said his decision was based on the prevailing realities affecting many grassroots political actors.

“I sincerely appreciate the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Husaini Alkali, for the confidence reposed in my capacity to serve,” Amalu said.

He, however, noted that accepting the appointment at this time would ignore the pressing concerns of party members who made major sacrifices during the last election cycle.

“Over 260 APC councillorship candidates and 17 Local Government chairmanship candidates who contested in the last state elections made enormous sacrifices — financially, emotionally and politically — to keep the party afloat,” he said.

“Many of us invested millions of naira in campaigns and party structures, yet we have continued to face unfair treatment, neglect and exclusion.”

Amalu further expressed concern that the situation has worsened rather than improved, despite recent political realignments in the state.

“Today, there is widespread dissatisfaction and many of these loyal candidates and party faithful are openly threatening to defect to the opposition coalition party, the African Democratic Congress (ADC),” he said.

He stressed the need for urgent action to address grievances, reconcile affected members, and rebuild confidence among grassroots stakeholders.

“If urgent and drastic steps are not taken to address these grievances, reconcile aggrieved members and rebuild trust, serious setbacks and strong opposition may emerge ahead,” Amalu warned.

Observers say the rejection underscores growing concerns among political stakeholders over recognition, inclusion, and fair treatment within party structures.
