Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has dissolved the State Executive Council with immediate effect, bringing the tenure of all commissioners and special advisers to an abrupt end.
The sweeping decision was announced in a brief statement issued late Thursday, February 12, 2026.
Governor Fubara directed all affected political appointees to hand over the affairs of their ministries and offices to the Permanent Secretaries or the most senior civil servants in their respective establishments.
According to the statement, the dissolution takes immediate effect, effectively resetting the executive structure of the Rivers State Government.
Despite the abrupt move, the governor expressed appreciation to the outgoing officials for their service to the state and his administration.
He acknowledged their “immense contributions” to governance and wished them well in their future endeavours, thanking them for their roles in advancing the affairs of Rivers State.
The mass dissolution signals a major shake-up within the executive arm of government and is widely seen as a prelude to fresh appointments and possible policy realignments in the coming days.
