The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced February 20, 2027, as the date for Nigeria’s next presidential election.
INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, disclosed this on Friday during a press briefing in Abuja, confirming that National Assembly elections will be conducted on the same day.
He further announced that governorship and State House of Assembly elections across the country will take place two weeks later, on March 6, 2027.
Speaking at the briefing, Amupitan assured Nigerians that the commission is fully prepared to conduct the polls.
“The National Assembly elections will hold on the same date, while governorship and state assembly elections will hold on March 6, 2027,” he stated.
The announcement officially sets the stage for the 2027 general elections, with political parties, candidates and stakeholders expected to begin preparations in earnest ahead of the electoral cycle.
