Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has removed Engr. Buba Galadima as Chairman of the Governing Council of Kano State Polytechnic, appointing the Emir of Gaya, Alhaji Dr. Aliyu Ibrahim Abdulkadir, as his replacement.

The decision was announced in a statement issued on Saturday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.

According to the statement, Galadima’s removal followed a broader restructuring aimed at aligning the institution with the administration’s “Kano First Agenda.”

“Although the tenure of the Governing Council is for a period of three years, the appointment of the Chairman was terminated before expiration due to the ongoing reforms for optimal performance of the Polytechnic,” the statement read.

Governor Yusuf expressed appreciation to Galadima for his service to the institution.

“Governor Yusuf expressed appreciation to Engr. Buba Galadima for the services he rendered to the institution during his tenure as Chairman of the Governing Council,” the statement added.

The governor also charged the new chairman to deploy his experience toward repositioning the polytechnic.

“The Governor urged the newly appointed Chairman, the Emir of Gaya, to bring his wealth of experience, leadership and commitment to bear in repositioning Kano State Polytechnic for greater academic and administrative excellence.”

Galadima, a prominent chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and a close ally of Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, had previously spoken strongly about loyalty within the party.

In an earlier interview with Trust TV, conducted shortly before Yusuf’s defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), Galadima urged the governor not to turn against Kwankwaso.

“They know that apart from God, the person who made them is Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. Each and every one of them. I am sure if they sleep, if they go to bed, they cannot sleep. Because it was Kwankwaso single-handedly that made them chairmen and legislators. But God did not abandon him,” Galadima had said.

He added:

“God made Abba Kabir Yusuf governor of Kano State. But anything that happens in this world, there is a reason. There is a ladder. Kwankwaso is that ladder. To all elected NNPP people in Kano, even PDP, even APC. There is no single elected APC person in Kano that did not go through the Kwankwaso school of politics. If there is, tell me. Starting from Ganduje, Abdullahi Abbas, Barau Jibrin, Kawu Sumaila, who are they? All of them were Kwankwaso’s boys.”

The development marks a significant political shift in Kano’s education sector leadership, coming amid ongoing political realignments in the state.
