Former Kaduna State Governor and chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Nasir El-Rufai, on Monday honoured an invitation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over alleged corruption linked to his tenure in office.

El-Rufai arrived at the headquarters of the anti-graft agency in Abuja accompanied by hundreds of supporters, drawing significant public attention as he presented himself for questioning.

The EFCC had invited the former governor to respond to allegations of financial impropriety connected to his administration while serving as Kaduna State governor.

Monday’s appearance comes days after El-Rufai declined to submit to security operatives at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, last Thursday.

Following the airport incident, El-Rufai granted a series of interviews in which he accused the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, of orchestrating an attempt to have him arrested.

The development marks the latest twist in the escalating political tensions surrounding the former governor, who has consistently denied wrongdoing.

Further details are expected as the EFCC’s questioning progresses.
