Former federal lawmaker, Stainless Nwodo, has declared his commitment to mobilising widespread grassroots support for the re-election of Enugu State Governor, Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, describing the governor’s performance as exceptional.

Speaking during a media interview, Nwodo said his immediate political priority is to consolidate support for Mbah’s second-term ambition, stressing that unity within the party remains critical.

“For now, my priority is to mobilize massive support for Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah’s re-election. He has delivered remarkable results and deserves a smooth and decisive second term,” he stated.

“Enugu State must reject any form of political gang-up against him.”

Calls for Unity Amid Party Tensions

Nwodo’s remarks followed reports that his associate and former aide, Hon. Tony Amalu, rejected an appointment offered by a group known as the Youth Parliament for Renewed Hope, citing grievances over alleged party neglect.

Reacting to the development, Nwodo appealed for calm and reconciliation.

“I would like to call on my friend and brother, Hon. Tony Amalu, to remain calm. I understand the grievances he expressed, particularly concerning what he described as party neglect and the exclusion of his group, the 2024 Area Council election candidates,” he said.

He urged Amalu and his supporters to set aside differences in the interest of the governor’s re-election bid.

“However, I appeal to him and his supporters, for the sake of our dear and performing Governor, Barr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, to let us unite and channel our collective strength toward supporting his second-term bid. Unity is paramount at this time.”

Nwodo disclosed that he had assured Amalu that their concerns would be presented before the State Party Executive and the governor.

“Dialogue and reconciliation remain the best path forward,” he added.

‘Tony Remains My Brother’

Despite a recent publication by Amalu reportedly critical of him, Nwodo maintained that their relationship remains intact.

“Tony remains my brother at all times. He was never just my Personal Assistant; he is much more than that,” he said. “He stood by me during difficult times. He is a good man.”

According to Nwodo, Amalu has since apologised.

“He has since apologized to me. Even before his apology, I understood that what happened was largely the result of manipulation by those who do not wish us well. I am glad he recognized the situation, and we are now on good terms.”

He revealed that some associates had urged him to escalate the matter but he declined.

“Many family members and friends advised me to escalate the matter, knowing it could have serious consequences for him and those around him. But I chose otherwise,” he said, adding that he would gladly work with Amalu again if given another political opportunity.

“I fondly call him ‘Emperor’ because he stayed when others walked away. I prefer to remember the good people have done for me rather than dwell on minor mistakes.”

Forgiveness and Political Future

Addressing those who allegedly worked against him during his time in the National Assembly, Nwodo said he harbours no grudges.

“I have forgiven everyone. If God had not permitted it, they would not have succeeded in the first place,” he said. “God will continue to uplift those of us who came from humble beginnings.”

He expressed gratitude to constituents in Igbo-Etiti/Uzo-Uwani Federal Constituency for their support, saying it shaped his political journey.

“I remain forever grateful to the good people of Igbo-Etiti/Uzo-Uwani Federal Constituency for their overwhelming support, which greatly shaped my political experience.”

While leaving open the possibility of contesting again if called upon, Nwodo emphasised that leadership is a divine assignment.

“If God grants me another opportunity to serve, I will. Leadership is a divine assignment. Who am I to decline if God calls me to serve His people?”

For now, however, he insists his focus remains firmly on rallying support for Governor Mbah’s return to office.
