The Enugu State Government has announced the successful completion of the first batch of the Development Bank of Nigeria (DBN) Entrepreneurship Training Programme (DETP), describing it as a major step toward strengthening small and medium-scale enterprises (MSMEs) in the state.
In a statement issued by the Enugu MSME & Startup Agency (Enugu SME Center), the initiative was hailed as “another strategic milestone in our commitment to building a resilient and investment-ready MSME ecosystem.”
The programme was delivered through a partnership between the Development Bank of Nigeria and the Enugu State Government, led by Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, and implemented by the Enugu SME Center.
According to the agency, entrepreneurs from across the state benefited from structured business training, financial literacy support and access-to-funding opportunities designed to enhance their competitiveness and sustainability.
“Through the partnership between the Development Bank of Nigeria (DBN) and the Enugu State Government, led by His Excellency, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, and implemented by the Enugu MSME & Startup Agency (Enugu SME Center), entrepreneurs across the state received structured business training, financial literacy support, and access-to-funding opportunities,” the statement read.
Participants underwent a combination of digital learning sessions, in-person workshops and a competitive pitch stage aimed at sharpening their business models and governance frameworks.
“From digital learning to in-person workshops and a competitive pitch stage, our MSMEs rose to the challenge, refining their business models, strengthening governance structures, and positioning themselves for scale,” the agency stated.
The Enugu SME Center emphasized that the programme goes beyond conventional training, positioning it as a catalyst for long-term economic transformation in the state.
“This is not just capacity building. It is capital readiness. It is ecosystem strengthening. It is the foundation for sustainable private-sector growth in Enugu State.”
The initiative forms part of the state government’s broader strategy to stimulate economic growth by empowering small businesses and attracting investment into the private sector.
