It was a moment of pride and celebration on Friday, 20 February 2026, at the FCID Annex, Enugu, as eleven police inspectors were formally promoted to the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in a colourful decoration ceremony.
The event, marked by cheers and ceremonial decorum, is a hallmark of the Nigeria Police Force’s continued commitment to rewarding diligence, professionalism and years of dedicated service.
Addressing the newly promoted officers, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG), FCID Annex Enugu, AIG Chris Chukwudi Ariekpere, congratulated them on what he described as a “well-deserved elevation” and reminded them that promotion comes with greater responsibility and higher expectations.
He urged the officers to justify the confidence reposed in them by the Force and the nation, stressing that the new rank demands discipline, integrity, and exemplary leadership. According to him, they must remain committed to upholding the rule of law, protecting lives and property, and conducting investigations with diligence and fairness.
The AIG further charged them to see their elevation not merely as a reward, but as a call to deeper service, professionalism and accountability.
Among those decorated were ASP Friday Usman, ASP Chinyere Chime, ASP Ekwelogwu Ezenwugbe of the Administrative Section, and eight other officers.
Speaking shortly after his decoration, ASP Friday Usman expressed gratitude to the Inspector-General of Police and the leadership of the FCID for finding him worthy of the promotion.
“I am deeply honoured by this elevation. This promotion is not just for me but for my family and colleagues who have supported me throughout my career. It is a motivation to rededicate myself to the service of our nation,” he said.
He added, “I assure the leadership of the Force and the public that I will carry out my duties with renewed commitment, professionalism and integrity. This new rank is a reminder that more is expected of me, and I am ready to give my best in the discharge of my responsibilities.”
The ceremony ended with goodwill messages from colleagues and well-wishers, as the newly promoted officers pledged to uphold the core values of the Nigeria Police Force in the discharge of their duties.
