Fidelity Advert

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Rivers State has raised alarm over what it described as a possible plot to arrest its chieftain and former Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi.

The party’s Publicity Secretary in the state, Chief Luckyman Egila, made the allegation on Friday while speaking with journalists in Port Harcourt.

Egila said although reports of an impending arrest may be described as rumours, the party would not dismiss the possibility given the current political climate.

“Well, you call it a rumour, but this is politics and we cannot write it off. Remember that El-Rufai was arrested by DSS and they seem to be after everybody that they see as opposition,” he said.

According to him, the ADC — which he described as the country’s major opposition force — and its leaders have become targets because of their political stance.

“As you know in Nigeria now, the African Democratic Congress is the main opposition political party that is out to unseat the ruling party. We cannot write it off that there is no plot. They are actually out to arrest whoever that is capable of opposing the or defeating them,” Egila stated.

He maintained that the ADC remains a law-abiding political party and is monitoring developments closely.

“African Democratic Congress is a law abiding political party, we are yet to hear if they will arrest him publicly or anything.

“We are watching for now. We hope that they are not going to get to that edge because Nigerians are also watching,” he added.

As of press time, there has been no official confirmation from security agencies regarding any planned action against Amaechi.
