The Department of Nursing Science at Tansian University has once again affirmed its reputation for academic excellence, emerging as a standout institution in Nigeria’s nursing education landscape following an exceptional performance at the state level of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria Florence Nightingale Essay Competition.
Competing against 11 other Departments of Nursing Science from universities and Colleges of Nursing Science across Anambra State, Tansian University distinguished itself with a commanding display of intellectual depth, analytical skill and professional insight.
Leading the charge was Anajemba Dabeluchukwu, who delivered a brilliant performance to emerge overall winner with an impressive score of 83 points, securing qualification for the highly competitive zonal stage of the contest. The achievement not only highlights the student’s academic strength but also reflects the rigorous training and mentorship culture within the department.
The excellence did not stop there. Obi Marvelous Chisom recorded a strong score of 77 points, while Okafor Daniella Chizaram followed closely with 74 points — performances widely regarded as outstanding in a competition that tested critical thinking, professional knowledge and clarity of expression.
The Florence Nightingale Essay Competition is designed to promote scholarly engagement, professional reflection and leadership capacity among nursing students. Tansian University’s dominant showing highlights the department’s commitment to producing well-rounded graduates equipped with both theoretical knowledge and practical competence.
Faculty members attribute the success to a culture of discipline, structured academic mentorship and a curriculum aligned with global best practices in nursing education. The department has continued to invest in research-driven learning, clinical excellence and student development initiatives that prepare learners to excel both within and beyond the classroom.
In a statement, the department commended the students for their confidence, dedication and exemplary representation of the university.
“This remarkable achievement reflects the hard work of our students and the strength of our academic programme. We are proud of their excellence and the honour they have brought to the university,” the department noted.
With Anajemba Dabeluchukwu advancing to the zonal level, expectations are high that Tansian University will continue to project its academic prowess onto an even larger stage.
As the institution builds on this success, education stakeholders say the Department of Nursing Science at Tansian University is fast consolidating its position as one of Nigeria’s leading centres for nursing education — distinguished by academic rigor, professional discipline and a consistent record of excellence.
