There was drama at the All Progressives Congress (APC) local government congress in Tofa LGA of Kano State on Monday after furious constituents reportedly chased away a member of the House of Representatives, Tijjani Abdulkadir Jobe.
The lawmaker, who represents Tofa, Dawakin-Tofa and Rimin Gado Federal Constituency, was forced to flee the venue amid shouting and jeers from a large crowd of party members and supporters.
A viral video circulating online captured the tense moment as an agitated mob surged toward Mr Jobe and his entourage, who were flanked by security operatives attempting to shield him from the crowd.
“We are not doing this again,” the angry constituents were heard chanting as they advanced toward the federal lawmaker.
“You will not wait; take your chairman; don’t leave him behind. Don’t leave alone,” members of the crowd shouted.
Some protesters accused Mr Jobe of abandoning his constituents and failing to maintain contact with the people he represents.
“We are not interested again. The representative cannot relate with the people, and he is not tolerant,” the crowd declared.
Efforts to obtain comments from Mr Jobe and the APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, were unsuccessful, as calls and messages to their telephone lines were not answered at the time of filing this report.
Monday’s confrontation reportedly marked Mr Jobe’s first public appearance in his hometown since winning a fifth term in the House of Representatives in 2023.
The lawmaker has previously faced public backlash. In 2020, residents reportedly assaulted him over allegations of unfulfilled promises.
Over the years, Mr Jobe has contested and won elections under different political platforms, including the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), and currently the APC. He has reportedly maintained political relevance through alliances with serving governors.
He previously worked with former Kano governors Ibrahim Shekarau, Rabiu Kwankwaso, and Abdullahi Ganduje, and is now aligned with Governor Abba Yusuf.
His latest political move — defecting from the NNPP to the APC — has been linked to reported efforts to secure an automatic ticket ahead of the 2027 elections.
The incident underscores growing tensions within party structures at the grassroots level as political realignments intensify ahead of the next electoral cycle.
