An Ilorin Revenue Court in Kwara State on Wednesday nullified the suspension of Hon. Saba Yisa Gideon and ordered his immediate reinstatement to the Kwara State House of Assembly.

Gideon, who represents Edu State Constituency, had been suspended on December 18, 2025, for three months over allegations that he recorded proceedings of a House meeting without consent and forwarded the recording to an unauthorised person.

Challenging the decision, the lawmaker dragged the Speaker and other members of the Assembly to court, seeking to overturn what he described as an unlawful suspension.

Delivering a judgment that lasted over one hour, Justice Muritala Folorunsho ruled that the suspension was executed through a motion moved without prior notice, thereby violating the lawmaker’s procedural rights.

The court held that the action of the House was not supported by the relevant provisions of the Legislative Houses (Powers and Privileges) Act or the Rules of the Kwara State House of Assembly.

Justice Folorunsho declared the suspension “unconstitutional, unlawful, null and void, and of no legal effect,” and accordingly set aside the three-month sanction imposed on Gideon.

In addition, the court granted an injunction restraining the respondents from interfering with the lawmaker’s legislative functions or denying him access to the Assembly complex, including his office and committee rooms.

The judge further ordered that all salaries and entitlements due to Gideon during the period of his suspension be paid in full, while directing both parties to bear their respective legal costs.

The ruling marks a significant judicial rebuke of the Assembly’s disciplinary action and clears the way for Gideon’s immediate return to legislative duties.
