The Ondo State Police Command has arrested six self-proclaimed pastors accused of orchestrating a fake miracle scam in Idanre, Idanre Local Government Area.
The suspects—identified as Fadahunsi, Kolade, Tijani, Iyanuoluwa, Arijesulola, and Ademola—were apprehended during a carefully coordinated, intelligence-driven operation on February 16, carried out by the police tactical teams in collaboration with the Community Safety Officers (CSOs).
DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the police spokesperson, confirmed the arrests in a statement on Thursday in Akure, explaining that the suspects allegedly targeted unsuspecting members of the public by posing as religious leaders and staging fraudulent miracles.
“The suspects exploited the faith, emotions, and vulnerabilities of individuals by promising divine solutions to financial difficulties, health challenges, and other personal problems,” Mr. Jimoh said. “They defrauded victims through various forms of obtaining by false pretence. During interrogation, it was revealed that each member had a specific role to make their operations appear legitimate and convincing.”
He added that preliminary investigations are ongoing to determine the total number of victims, the financial scale of the scam, and to identify other possible collaborators who may still be at large.
“All suspects are currently in police custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation,” Mr. Jimoh said.
The police also issued a stern warning to the public. “Residents should exercise due diligence and avoid falling prey to individuals who use religion, spirituality, or promises of miracles as a cover for criminal activities. Verify claims, be wary of suspicious financial demands, and report dubious gatherings to the nearest police station,” he advised.
DSP Jimoh concluded, “Through sustained intelligence gathering, community partnership, and strategic operations, the command remains committed to ensuring the safety and protection of lives and property across Ondo State.”
