The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested a suspect in connection with last week’s attack on Peter Obi and several political figures in Benin City, Edo State.
The suspect, identified as Udeme Sunday Stephen, was apprehended following what security sources described as a thorough investigation into the incident.
The attack occurred at the residence of John Odigie-Oyegun, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), where Obi and other party leaders had gathered.
Attack Followed Party Engagement
According to Yunusa Tanko, National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, the incident took place shortly after the group returned from the ADC secretariat in Benin, where they had formally received Olumide Akpata, the 2023 Labour Party governorship candidate in Edo State, into the party.
Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, was reportedly attacked alongside several ADC chieftains during the encounter.
Authorities have yet to release further details regarding the motive behind the attack or whether additional suspects are being sought.
