The Deputy Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Enugu State Chapter, and Executive Chairman of Igboeze South Local Government Area, Hon. Barr. Ugo-Ferdinand Ukwueze, has described the recently concluded All Progressives Congress (APC) congresses in Enugu State as the most credible ever conducted by any political party in the state.
Speaking with journalists in Enugu on Wednesday after the ward, local government and state congresses, Ukwueze said the peaceful and transparent exercise across the 260 political wards and 17 local government areas demonstrates the unity and renewed strength of the party.
According to him, the seamless conduct of the congresses reflects the overwhelming support of party leaders and members for Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, whom he described as the leader of the APC in Enugu State.
“The peaceful, transparent, and widely accepted congresses we witnessed across Enugu State clearly show that our party is united and focused. From the wards to the local governments and the state, members freely expressed their will without intimidation or confusion. This level of organisation and acceptance has further strengthened confidence in the leadership of the party. It also reflects the trust party members have in the Governor’s direction, vision, and capacity to lead the APC to greater electoral success in the state,” Ukwueze stated.
He added that he was not surprised by the orderly outcome of the congresses, attributing it to what he described as the exceptional leadership provided by the governor for both the state and the party.
Looking ahead to the 2027 general elections, Ukwueze declared that the APC in Enugu has already begun mobilization efforts aimed at securing what he termed 99.9 per cent of the votes for Governor Mbah’s re-election and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He further revealed that the party is preparing to conduct one of the best primary elections in the coming weeks, noting that credible leaders have been elected at both the grassroots and state levels.
Ukwueze also commended the ward, local government and state congress committees led by Lucky Ógbè, Funkekeme Solomon and Loveth Idisi for what he described as professionalism and fairness in the discharge of their duties.
“The orderly manner in which the congresses were conducted has strengthened internal democracy within the party and boosted the confidence of members ahead of future electoral engagements. This is because the exercise has positioned the APC in Enugu State for greater unity, mobilisation, and strategic growth that will provide a successful outing at the poll,” he said.
He equally praised the outgoing APC Caretaker Committee led by Ben Nwoye, describing the committee as focused, inclusive and committed to rebuilding and stabilising the party.
According to him, the caretaker leadership laid the critical foundation that ensured the smooth conduct of the congresses across the state.
Ukwueze also congratulated the newly elected state leadership of the APC under Martin Chukwunwike, describing their emergence at the state congress as historic, peaceful and widely accepted.
He said the outcome reflects unity, renewed strength and collective determination to reposition the party for greater political victories and overwhelming electoral success in the forthcoming elections.
