Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Dr. Uzor Cares Foundation, Dr. FSA Uzor, has announced plans by the foundation to fund annual health insurance premiums for some of the poorest residents across Udi and Ezeagu Local Government Areas of Enugu State.
Uzor made the disclosure while speaking at the second edition of the Dr. Uzor Cares Foundation Bursary Award Ceremony, where the foundation awarded bursaries to 137 students from Udi and Ezeagu LGAs.
According to him, the initiative is part of a broader collaboration with the Enugu State Agency for Universal Health Coverage aimed at improving access to affordable healthcare for vulnerable residents in the Agbaja communities.
“Beyond the random payment of hospital bills for some persons in dire need, we are in discussion with the Enugu State Agency for Universal Health Coverage to usher in a new paradigm in our efforts to optimize financial access to healthcare for some of the poorest of the poor persons in Agbaja local communities,” Uzor said.
He explained that under the agency’s Adoption/Diaspora Health Insurance Programme, the foundation would pay the annual health insurance premium for selected indigent persons, enabling them to access a wide range of medical services throughout the year.
“Under the Agency’s Adoption/Diaspora Health Insurance Programme, our Foundation will pay annual health insurance premium for select poorest of the poor persons in our communities which will give them access to all year-round free primary, advanced secondary and dental care through the Agency’s accredited health care facilities,” he stated.
Uzor further disclosed that the process of identifying beneficiaries would involve community leaders across the two local government areas.
“In the coming days, our Foundation’s operatives will be reaching out to the Traditional Rulers and Presidents-General of the 91 officially recognised communities in Udi and Ezeagu LGAs to identify the deserving persons,” he added.
He described the move as the foundation’s contribution to the state government’s efforts to expand access to affordable healthcare.
“This is our modest contribution to the Enugu State Government’s bold efforts to bring affordable healthcare to the doorsteps of our people,” Uzor said.
The foundation’s chairman stressed that the organisation’s interventions are designed to create lasting social impact rather than temporary relief.
“We are building an organised ecosystem of opportunities, not one-off charity,” he declared.
The announcement came as the foundation distributed ₦100,000 bursary each to 137 undergraduates for the 2026 academic year, reinforcing its commitment to education, community development and social welfare.
