The Nigeria Police Force has removed Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Benjamin Hundeyin from his position as Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), barely six months after he was appointed to the role.
Sources within the force confirmed that the decision was approved on Thursday, shortly after Tunji Disu assumed office as the new Inspector-General of Police.
Disu officially took over the leadership of the police on Wednesday following the removal of the former Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.
A senior police source disclosed that the development was part of routine administrative changes that typically follow the appointment of a new police chief.
“Hundeyin’s removal forms part of routine administrative changes often carried out when a new Inspector-General takes office,” the source said.
As of the time of filing this report, the police authorities have yet to announce a replacement for the Force Public Relations Officer.
Hundeyin was appointed Force spokesperson by Egbetokun and had served in several strategic roles within the Nigeria Police Force before his latest assignment.
Prior to his appointment as FPRO, he served as the Police Public Relations Officer at the Zone 2 Command Headquarters in Onikan, Lagos.
He also served in the United Nations–African Union Mission in Darfur in 2020, where he participated in international peacekeeping operations.
The Lagos-born police officer holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Language from Lagos State University and a Master’s degree in Legal Criminology and Security Psychology from the University of Ibadan.
