A security expert, Ralph Nkemakolam, has raised alarm over alleged irregularities in the ongoing membership registration exercise of the Labour Party (LP) in Abia State, claiming that the National Identification Numbers (NINs) of individuals who are not members of the party may have been used to inflate registration figures.
Nkemakolam made the allegation while speaking with journalists on Friday in Nvosi, located in Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area of the state.
According to him, the exercise may have been manipulated to project a false impression of the party’s popularity and support base in Abia.
He claimed that some individuals who are not members of the party could have had their NIN details used without their consent during the registration process.
“The Labour Party in Abia State has not realised that they do not have the numbers they claim,” Nkemakolam said. “What we are seeing is an attempt to artificially raise those numbers by allegedly purchasing the NIN details of Nigerians who are not members of the party.”
The security analyst further alleged that the Abia State Government may be backing the exercise financially through Darlington Nwokocha, a senator, in order to facilitate the party’s registration drive across the state.
He warned that if the allegations are confirmed, such practices could erode public confidence in political processes and undermine the credibility of party administration.
Nkemakolam therefore called on security agencies and regulatory authorities to investigate the matter to ensure transparency and accountability.
“I am calling on security agencies to thoroughly investigate what is happening in Abia State. Nigerians deserve a political process that is transparent and credible,” he added.
