A community leader in Enugu West Senatorial District, Chukwuemeka Okolie, has strongly condemned what he described as a “shameful campaign of calumny” against Osita Ngwu, pledging his support for the senator and distancing himself and his supporters from the attacks.
In a statement dated March 11, 2026, Okolie, who is the Secretary of the Ogbaku Town General Assembly, said he was compelled to speak out against individuals he accused of spreading unfounded allegations against the lawmaker representing Enugu West Senatorial District.
He also noted that the Ogbaku Town General Assembly had earlier distanced itself from the campaign on March 5, 2026, adding that he fully aligns with the community’s position.
“I’m compelled to distance myself and my supporters from the shameful campaign of calumny being waged against Senator Osita Ngwu by some individuals who are clearly lost and lacking direction. These jesters and clowns, who seem more suited to entertaining crowds at an amusement park, have shown us their true intentions with their updates and manifesto — they’re selfish and directionless,” he said.
Okolie criticised the political ambitions of those behind the attacks, questioning their capacity to represent the district.
“It’s laughable that they’d vie for the Senate seat when their manifesto focuses solely on their own political ward, neglecting the needs of the other wards in Enugu West. Meanwhile, Senator Osita Ngwu has done an amazing job in community development, human development, health, and education across the board,” he stated.
He urged the senator to remain focused on his work and ignore critics, expressing confidence that the people of the district would not be misled.
“I urge Senator Osita Ngwu to keep up the good work and ignore these detractors. The people of Enugu West know better than to be swayed by empty rhetoric. We’ll know he’s not representing us well when the stakeholders and well-meaning individuals and bodies say so, not these attention-seekers,” Okolie added.
The community leader also declared that anyone planning to challenge the senator in the 2027 elections may already be at a disadvantage.
“To be honest, anyone contesting against Senator Osita Ngwu in 2027 has already lost. Some are just seeking attention or a handout,” he said.
Okolie further expressed appreciation to the senator for projects attracted to Ogbaku community, particularly acknowledging his support during the Ogbaku Day Festival held on December 30, 2025.
“The Ogbaku people are grateful for your gesture during the Ogbaku Day Festival on December 30, 2025, and the projects you’ve attracted to our community. We appreciate your efforts for Ogbaku and Enugu West,” he said.
He also criticised those behind the alleged campaign, claiming they lack political relevance even within their own ward.
“Worst still, those involved in this petty campaign against Senator Osita Ngwu are very unpopular and lack capacity even in their own political ward. They’ve never voted in any election, don’t have voter’s cards, and aren’t even members of a political party. One of them was lobbying to be an APC ward executive without even having a party card. I won’t mention names to avoid giving them undeserved attention,” Okolie said.
He reaffirmed his support for the earlier stance taken by the Ogbaku Town General Assembly, maintaining that the community would not be drawn into what he described as politically motivated distractions.
