The Vice President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Ngozi Olejeme, has been honoured with the prestigious “Ugo Nwanyi” title by the Women Wing of the Asaba Development Union Abuja Branch.

The honour was conferred on Saturday, March 7, 2026, during a colourful ceremony held at the Mariam Babangida International Centre in Abuja.

According to a statement issued on March 11, 2026, by the National Publicity Secretary of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Ezechi Chukwu, Olejeme was recognised for her outstanding contributions to leadership, women empowerment and community development, as well as her commitment to advancing the welfare and participation of women in nation-building.

The event also featured posthumous honours for two distinguished daughters of Asaba—former Nigerian First Lady Maryam Babangida and renowned diplomat and scholar Joy Ogwu—in recognition of their remarkable service to Nigeria.

Olejeme dedicates honour to service

In her acceptance speech, Olejeme expressed gratitude to the organisers for the recognition, describing the award as a motivation to continue serving society.

She said, “I am profoundly grateful to the organisers for finding me worthy of this honour. This award is a call to greater service.”

She urged women to remain steadfast, law-abiding and actively engaged in leadership, entrepreneurship and community development.

Olejeme also called on women in Asaba and Nigerians generally to support the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that his Renewed Hope Agenda is designed to reposition Nigeria for economic growth and sustainable development.

She further appealed for continued support for Sheriff Oborevwori, Governor of Delta State, commending his administration for strengthening the state’s national political relevance and driving development across the state.

Ohanaeze hails Olejeme

Speaking at the event, the Deputy President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Okey Nwadinobi, described Olejeme as an “Amazon” whose dedication and resilience continue to advance the cause of Igbo women and the Igbo nation.

Several prominent leaders and stakeholders attended the ceremony, including the President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Azuta Mbata; the Asagba of Asaba, Epiphany Azinge; and former Deputy Governor of Anambra State and Secretary-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Emeka Sibeudu, among other dignitaries.

The ceremony celebrated the enduring contributions of notable women from Asaba and reaffirmed the vital role women continue to play in leadership, unity and national development.
