The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of 13 Commissioners of Police (CPs) to the rank of Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs) following the successful completion of written examinations and oral interviews conducted at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja.

The Commission said the list of the newly promoted senior officers has been forwarded to the Kayode Egbetokun, the Nigeria Police Force Inspector-General of Police, for immediate implementation.

In a statement issued by the PSC Head of Protocol and Public Affairs, Torty Njoku Kalu, the newly elevated AIGs include Emmanuel Ado Christopher, former Commissioner of Police in Yobe State; Joseph Eribo, former CP in Ekiti State; Dantawaye Miller, former CP of the Federal Capital Territory; and Uche Ifeanyi Henry, Director of the Police National Cyber Crime Centre.

Others promoted to AIG rank are Olarenwaju Peter Ogunlowo, former CP Ogun State; Muhammad Dahiru, former CP Jigawa State; Dankombo Morris, former CP Adamawa State; Bello Shehu, former CP Katsina State; Ibrahim B. Maikaba, former CP Zamfara State; Ahmed Musa, former CP Sokoto State; Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, former CP Lagos State; Simeon Udofia Akpanudom, former CP Anti-Fraud, FCID Annex Lagos; and Haruna Olufemi, former CP Oyo State.

The PSC also approved the promotion of 17 Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) to the rank of Commissioners of Police (CPs).

Those promoted include Abdulrahim Audu Shaibu, Commander NIWA Lokoja; Abbas Sule, DC DFA INTERPOL; Ojugbele E. Adebola, DC OPS Zone 2 Lagos; Preye Raymond Egbetokun, DC DFA Akwa Ibom Command; and Kayode Uthman Magaji, Community Policing, Research and Planning, Force Headquarters Abuja.

Others are Adebisi Bola Lateef, DC DFA Osun Command; Markus Ishaku Basiran, DC DFA Zone 6 Calabar; Silas Bamidele Aremu, DD Admin DoLS; Sylvester Onyie Uzoefuna, DC DOPS Cross River Command; and Magaji Ismaila, DC Projects PAB Force Headquarters Abuja.

Also elevated are Theodore Chukwuemeka Obasi, DC Maritime Lagos; Sarah Idowu Ehindero, DC DFA Ogun State Command; Hayatu Shaffa Hassan, DC SID Abia State Command; Mohammed Babakura, DC Inspectorate DTD; Danjuma I. Yahaya, DC DOPS Zone 12 Bauchi; and Rebecca Uchenna Okereke, Band Master.

In the same exercise, the Commission promoted 19 Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) to the rank of Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs), while 35 Chief Superintendents of Police (CSPs) were elevated to Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs).

Congratulating the officers, PSC Chairman and retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Hashimu Salihu Argungu, described the promotions as recognition of merit, dedication and professional excellence.

“The promotions are recognition of merit, dedication and excellence in service,” Argungu said.

He urged the newly promoted officers to justify their elevation by strengthening their commitment to effective policing and national security.

Argungu also stressed that the Commission’s promotion process is strictly merit-based and transparent.

“Promotion in the Commission is guided by transparency and merit. Officers who fail the examinations are required to resit them, while three consecutive failures could lead to retirement in line with the Public Service Rules.”

The PSC chairman further commended members of the Commission’s board for ensuring a successful exercise, including retired Supreme Court Justice Paul Adamu Galumje, retired DIG Taiwo Lakanu, and the Commission’s Secretary, Onyemuche Nnamani.

The Commission reiterated its commitment to strengthening professionalism, discipline and accountability within the Nigeria Police Force through a rigorous and transparent promotion system.
