The Nigeria Police Force in Enugu State has arrested a 45-year-old man for allegedly sexually abusing his two daughters in a disturbing case of incest uncovered by operatives of the command.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mammani Bitrus Giwa, disclosed this on Wednesday during a press briefing at the State Command Headquarters in the Government Reserved Area (GRA), Enugu, where he reviewed the command’s policing activities over the past year.
According to the police chief, the suspect, identified as Eugene Obinna Ikeche, was arrested on February 20, 2026, bu operatives attached to the Iwollo Police Division collaboration with members of the Neighbourhood Watch Group.
Giwa explained that the case initially came to the attention of the police when the suspect reported that his 17-year-old daughter was missing.
However, after the teenager was later found, she revealed to investigators that she had run away from home because her father had been having sexual relations with her.
“In a case of incest, one Eugene Obinna Ikeche (male, aged 45) was arrested on 20th February 2026 by the Command’s operatives serving in Iwollo Police Division in conjunction with the Neighbourhood Watch Group,” the commissioner said.
“The suspect had reported his 17-year-old daughter missing. Hower, after she was found, she informed the Police inat she ran away because her father was having carnal knowledge of her and that after running away, her father started defiling her 12-year-old younger sister.”
The police commissioner said the suspect admitted to committing the crime during interrogation.
“The suspect confessed to the crime, blaming it on the devil. He will be prosecuted in court once investigations are concluded,” Giwa added.
The CP noted that the case was among several incidents of rape and defilement recorded by the command within the past year.
According to him, 39 suspects were arrested for rape or defilement during the period under review as part of intensified efforts by the command to tackle crimes against pemons.
Giwa reiterated the command’s commitment to protecting vulnerable members of society, especially children, while assuring residents that suspects involved in such crimes would be thoroughly investigated and prosecuted.
