Popular nightlife entrepreneur and socialite Cubana Chief Priest has expressed regret over his support for Peter Obi during the 2023 presidential election, admitting that his decision at the time was misguided.
Speaking at a rally organised by the City Boy Movement in Imo State, the celebrity businessman said his earlier support for Obi was largely driven by ethnic sentiment, a position he now says he regrets.
“At the past election, I did not support Tinubu because I wanted to be an Igbo boy by supporting Peter Obi and I made some careless mistakes. I was a fool then but not anymore now,” he said.
The socialite, who currently serves as the Imo State director of the City Boy Movement, a youth-driven support group backing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections, called on voters in the South-East to reconsider their political strategy in future elections.
According to him, the region must adopt a more calculated approach to national politics in order to secure greater political influence and opportunities.
“We Igbos are the people that were defeated during the war and it has not been easy for us in Nigeria since then. That is why we want to be smart this time around so we can get what we want. We do not want to lose again and we will never waste our votes again,” he added.
Cubana Chief Priest also highlighted the relationship between the Tinubu family and the South-East, noting that the president’s son, Seyi Tinubu, is married to an Igbo woman.
“He is our brother and our own,” he said.
The socialite had earlier, in February, appealed to voters in the South-East to support Tinubu’s re-election bid, expressing optimism that the president could eventually pave the way for an Igbo leader to emerge in the future.
